Amlan Innovation

Scientists and veterinarians worldwide agree that a healthy intestine helps support overall animal health and welfare. That’s why our innovative research programs focus on the development of novel natural feed additives that optimize intestinal health and help the animal’s own biological systems naturally defend against disease. We do this by investing in state-of-the-art research facilities and a global team of specialists with expertise across veterinary and human medicine, microbiology, animal nutrition, chemistry and material science disciplines.

Financial Impact

Enteric disease costs the animal protein industry billions of dollars each year. We help producers address these challenges with mineral-based feed additives that optimize animal intestinal health.

Cooperators

We work with many leading research institutions who specialize in poultry, swine, dairy and aquaculture research science. Research of our products has been conducted globally by leading scientists at the USDA, Harvard University, Northwestern University, Southern Poultry Research, University of Missouri, Purdue University, Shandong University, Mahidol University and many others.

Experts

From PhDs to DVMs, the members of our life science team have a broad knowledge base and decades of experience across multiple disciplines including animal nutrition, chemistry and material science.

Innovation Center

The Richard M. Jaffee Center for Applied Microbiology houses state-of-the-art equipment that our life science experts use with a variety of research techniques to develop and test new mineral-based products for the animal health market.

Research Studies

All Amlan products undergo extensive in vitro and in vivo research (in house and third party) before they’re launched to prove their efficacy and mode of action. We also work directly with customers to demonstrate and validate the value of our products in a commercial setting.

Food Chain

We help animal protein producers meet consumer demands for clean food by developing natural feed additives that are made with the world in mind. And because we’re vertically integrated with full traceability, producers and consumers can trust the safety and quality of our products.

Richard M. Jaffee Center for Applied Microbiology

Innovative research needs a cutting-edge facility, which is why Amlan established and continues to invest in the Richard M. Jaffee Center for Applied Microbiology. This progressive facility accelerates pioneering animal sciences research, leading to value-adding products that optimize animal gut health. Equipped with specialized resources, the Life Sciences team:

  • Investigates pathogen virulence factors as part of an antivirulence approach to enteric disease
  • Studies the positive effects of our next-generation products
  • Analyzes the synergistic capabilities of our novel calcium montmorillonite when it is formulated with other feed additives
  • Isolates and cultivates beneficial and pathogenic bacteria for research purposes

Nick Jaffee Center for Innovation

Amlan’s Life Sciences team actively collaborates with Oil-Dri® Corporation of America Materials Sciences and Life Sciences teams, a collaboration made easier because Amlan and Oil-Dri’s research facilities are both located in Vernon Hills, Illinois. The Nick Jaffee Center for Innovation is home to Oil-Dri’s extensive research and development program that has resulted in many breakthrough products and market applications.

The Nick Jaffee Center for Innovation includes:

  • Over 18,000 square feet dedicated to research, development and technical support activities
  • Laboratories and a pilot plant that simulate the production processes of Oil-Dri’s customers and Oil-Dri’s manufacturing plants
