Reduces Performance Through Poor Nutrient Absorption

Coccidiosis causes significant negative economic impacts on poultry production. It’s traditionally controlled by chemical coccidiostats and ionophores; however, drug resistance and increasing public concerns have driven the need for natural anticoccidial control strategies.

What Is Coccidiosis?

Coccidiosis is an enteric disease caused by parasitic protozoa in the Eimeria genus. Part of the Eimeria life cycle includes invading intestinal epithelial cells, which damages and compromises the intestinal lining. The intestinal barrier is one of the first lines of defense against disease. Intestinal wall injury increases the likelihood of the invasion of pathogens and makes birds more susceptible to diseases like necrotic enteritis.

The Life Cycle of Parasitic Eimeria

The Eimeria life cycle starts with ingestion of infectious oocysts from the litter or contaminated water. Reproduction of Eimeria occurs within the host and involves acute invasion and destruction of the intestinal mucosa. Feces release the new oocysts back into the bird’s environment; then, under the right conditions, oocysts undergo further development to become infectious and the life cycle starts again.

Parasitic Eimeria life cycle starts from day 1 through day 7 with sporogony, schizogony, and gametogony outlined inside the daytime span with images of each stage of the life cycle.

Phylox® Feed Naturally Targets the Eimeria Life Cycle

Phylox is a synergistic blend of bioactive phytochemicals with multiple modes of action that work to disrupt the Eimeria life cycle as well as improve intestinal health.

  • Prevents oocyst sporulation and damages Eimeria cell membrane integrity
  • Energizes host intestinal cells
  • Improves weight gain and feed conversion, and reduces mortality

Other Amlan Products that Help Improve Intestinal Health

To support Phylox in high-challenge environments, Calibrin®-Z, a broad-spectrum biotoxin-control feed additive, can decrease the level of additional enteric pathogens that reduce feed conversion and damage intestinal integrity.

Similarly, Phylox works synergistically with Varium®, a natural patented mineral-based feed formulation, that can also reduce challenges from pathogenic bacteria and their toxins while strengthening the intestinal barrier and gently stimulating intestinal immunity.

NeutraPath®, our natural pathogen control product, can also be combined with Phylox to help prevent coccidiosis-related secondary infections from developing. NeutraPath has bacteriostatic and bactericidal properties, can neutralize bacterial toxins and can disrupt bacterial communication (quorum sensing).

Proven Natural Solution for Coccidiosis

Multiple contract research organization studies have shown that Phylox improves the performance and health of Eimeria-challenged broilers. In fact, Phylox-fed broilers had equivalent performance compared to broilers fed commercially available coccidiostats, including ionophores and coccidiostat chemicals.
